1. The first-ever speeding ticket was issued in 1896. The offending driver was travelling at a momentous 8mph. Walter Arnold was driving four times the speed limit (2mph).
2. Of all the cars driven on UK roads, 1 in 4 of them were made in China.
3. There are approximately 60 million cars produced every year. That’s 165,00 per day, 6,875 an hour and 115 every minute – insane!
4. The first-ever car accident happened in 1891 in Ohio. This incident prompted better safety equipment for drivers and their passengers.
5. The average car is made up of over 30,000 unique parts.
6. Around 75% of all the cars produced by Rolls Royce are STILL operational and on the road.
7. Cruise control was invented in 1948 by a man who was blind and inspired to create it by his lawyer… we can only assume that it was because he was a very bad driver!
8. Around 95% of a car’s lifespan is spent parked.
9. The word ‘car’ derives from the Latin word, ‘carrus’ and it means ‘a two-wheeled wagon’.
10. Around 65% of the world’s motorists drive on the right side of the road.
